Quick Start Guide: How to use eSafe School tools
The eSafe School tool allows you to rate your school against a number of different online safety criteria.
It is structured in elements, strands, and aspects. Within each aspect, there are 5 level statements, which are shown on the review page. A rating from 5 to 1 can be selected with 1 representing the highest level of achievement.
Your review dashboard provides an overview of your progress within the tool. The radar graph shows the levels you have selected for each aspect (green), along with the current national level (blue) and recommended benchmark levels (red).
This provides an instant overview of the areas of online safety that need improvement. Click on the intersection of the aspect line and the red line to be taken to the selected aspect and continue your review.
The elements provide the highest level in the structure, defining the four main categories in which the review is carried out.
Each element provides the starting point for the review. Click any element to view its contained strands.
Each element is divided into a number of strands. There are eight strands in total within the four elements. Each strand is then further divided into aspects.
The average level for a strand is calculated from the ratings given to each aspect in the strand. Click on any strand to view its aspects.
Within each aspect you will find five level statements. Select the statement that best reflects your current position. The benchmark level for the Online Safety Mark is indicated alongside the relevant level statement.
Once you have selected a level, you will be presented with the relevant improvement actions. You can then enter commentary on your current position, evidence, and your action plan for improvements.
Progress in each aspect is calculated based on whether you have chosen a level and whether you have entered commentary.
